As I write these words I can still hardly believe that I am Mum to a 7 year old. How? Just how did that happen?! The years have been and gone in what feels like a blink.

Fellow Mums of December babies will understand me when I say that organising birthday parties on the mouth of Christmas is well … interesting to say the least! I can often find the festive season a little overwhelming as it is, so the timing of a birthday on December 16th isn’t my idea of ‘perfect’ timing whatsoever! December is a manic month for many of us, but birthdays are important to mark and celebrate, and never more so than for Miss Phoebe Rose.

Phoebe’s 6th birthday came and went quietly last year. We were deep in the trenches of lockdown life and that life was sometimes a little lonely for our only child, Phoebs. There is only so much need a parent can fill for their child and I simply couldn’t replace her wee friends, especially on her birthday. So I really wanted to do something special this year, and after much deliberation, we settled on using my Dad’s church hall and hiring a bouncy castle. There would be plenty of room for Phoebe to have fun with her friends and it would be a big change from her previous birthday parties at home. She was so excited to write all her invitations and to make little Christmas angels with my Mum for her party!

Thankfully we all stayed covid-free and the party went ahead as planned with plenty of unicorn fun, party games, kosy cake and a bit of bashing a unicorn piñata for good measure! Phoebe was in her absolute element and I was delighted for her. It was her special day, and rightly so.
